Guilin Yanshan Wanda Exhibition Center: A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Tengyuan Design's Award-Winning Project Showcases Local Culture and Craftsmanship

The design of the Guilin Yanshan Wanda Exhibition Center sets it apart from other sales offices. The main structural form is an octagonal drum tower, a nod to the traditional mortise and tenon structure technology. Tengyuan Design has employed modern design methods to express this traditional form, incorporating elements of local culture and humanistic characteristics such as the Guilin landscape, Guangxi bronze drum, and cliff stone carving. This integration of regional characteristics into the design allows the scheme to exude a strong local cultural flavor.

The realization of the design was a feat of engineering and craftsmanship. The design team adhered to traditional mortise and tenon structure technology while employing modern design techniques. The project, covering a total of 3500 square meters, was a testament to the compatibility and vitality of Chinese traditional culture.

The project was not without its challenges. The thirteen-storey overlapping eaves contrasted sharply with the huge and rugged building body, testing the design team's implementation skills. The complex structural combination with a variety of materials resulted in a perfect integration of light and heavy, clumsy and skillful, sparse and dense, thick and thin, rigid and soft elements.

The project, which started in February 2017 in Guilin and finished in August 2017, was the result of extensive research. The Tengyuan design team investigated several traditional buildings with Guangxi characteristics, including the Sanjiang Drum-tower, and studied the mortise and tenon structure technology of the Dong minority drum-tower. This research led to the development of a structural combination method suitable for the project, expressing the connotation of traditional craft with modern structural combination methods.

The Guilin Yanshan Wanda Exhibition Center is a shining example of Tengyuan Design's commitment to incorporating local cultural charm into their designs. The project's success was recognized with a Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to the design's outstanding expertise and innovation.
